HATTIE WHITEHEAD

Growing up in South West London, Hattie Whitehead was born into a family that held music, poetry, creativity and expression at its core. The daughter of a jazz musician and a poet, her family’s diverse favourite artists, from Paul Simon to Miles Davis provided a solid musical grounding that significantly shaped Hattie’s melodic and heartfelt style. Her jazz inflections have drawn comparisons to some of the musical greats she grew up listening to – Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, John Martyn and Jeff Buckley. Her love of modern alternative, folk and indie bands has further developed a style comparable to current artists such as Bon Iver, Laura Marling, Jose Gonzalez and The Staves. What they all have in common are melody, emotion, soulfulness and honesty.

Following the release of her debut EP ‘Home’ in 2015, Hattie had radio play on BBC London and Amazing Radio before winning third prize in Glastonbury's Emerging Talent Competition. She has since performed at a raft of festivals such as Latitude, Wilderness, Field Day and Cambridge Folk Festival, supported the likes of Joey Dosik and Conner Youngblood and gained the support of national press, including the iNewspaper, the Telegraph and Radio 2’s Whispering Bob Harris following the release of her second EP ‘Old Soul’.

Tackling themes of grief, friendship, relationships, and the processing of difficult emotions, the music of Old Soul saw Hattie matured since her debut in 2015. The EP of heartfelt indie folk is brimming with lilting melodies that are always enthralling and never predictable, and vocals that are distinguished by their soulfulness and clarity.

In 2020, Hattie’s music reached the world of television, with three tracks from her latest EP appearing in Swedish Drama ‘Alska Mig’, and single ‘Ups and Downs’ featuring in Apple TV’s new comedy ‘Trying’. As well as contributing her own music to the series, Hattie worked with composers Guy Garvey (Elbow), Pete Jobson (I Am Kloot) and Paul Saunderson as a featured artist on the official soundtrack, released on Polydor in May 2020.

2022 is set to see Hattie’s music reaching new heights and sounds as she works towards a debut studio album.
