It’s been 18 months since singer- songwriter Will Robert walked away from a promising career as a sound engineer to embark on his musical journey – little did he know it was to become the first of many. Quite literally. Leaving his Cambridge bedroom where he had spent hours refining his unique style of percussive guitar playing, Will began a 300-date tour busking in city centres all over Europe with nothing but his guitar and his charismatic collection of songs for company.
A travelling troubadour, he hit the streets of Hamburg, Berlin, Amsterdam and London, playing to anyone who would listen, making enough cash to move from city to city, and garnering a loyal group of fans along the way. It was in January 2015 that his months of “couch surfing” paid off. His local BBC Introducing station in Cambridge picked up the track “City Lights”, taken from his debut EP “Transitions” and quickly passed it onto Fearne Cotton. A week of playlisting on Radio 1 followed, along with comparisons to acclaimed artists like Ben Howard and Bon Iver.
Mixed by Dan Grech (Radiohead , The Vaccines, Tom Odell) “City Lights” is now a fan favourite and along with “Best Laid Plans” have become staples in Will’s mesmerizing live show. Fast forward only a couple of months and Will is about to embark on a further 100 shows in 100 days with slots at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, and Secret Garden Party now confirmed. He’s also been busy in the studio, collaborating with the hotly tipped rapper George The Poet as well as working with Hospital Records Producer / DJ Logistics.
